THERE was a good attendance at the Annual Darts Competition, held on December 1 at the Talbot Hotel, Knightwick. We had two guests from foreign parts (Yorkshire actually) who were invited to take part. Richard, one of the guests soon stamped his authority on the game and fought his way through to the final. We held our breath as he pitched himself against our reigning champion, Andy Callow. It was an exciting game but Andy came out on top, once again. However, Richard was able to return to Harrogate clutching the "runners-up" trophy, which he can proudly put on display at his home until next December, when we send Securicor up north to retrieve the trophy.

As usual the kitchen staff at the Talbot provided an ample supply of refreshments (hot sausage rolls - a speciality) which we all devoured with alacrity.

RBL POPPY APPEAL

This year's amazing total for the Poppy Appeal is £6065.51. First of all a very big thank you to all our hard working collectors who once again braved all weathers going from door to door in the parishes, not forgetting all the static point premises and collections from Broadwas, Martley and Wichenford churches.

There were a number of events marking the anniversary of the outbreak of the first world war, The Little Witley choir concert at Martley Village Hall, Madrigal concert at Cotheridge Church, Coffee morning at Martley Village Hall, a donation from Cob House Fisheries and a very generous donation from Laylocks Nurseries following the sale of their poppy bird feeders. Many thanks and well done to everyone involved in any way and thank you to everyone who donated to the appeal.
