A LIFT could be installed in Bingham House in Cirencester's Dyer Street so the town council's offices meet Disability Discrimination Act rules.
Cirencester Town Council (CTC) has applied for permission to put the elevator next to the staircase in the listed building.
There was previously a lift in the same place but it was removed in the 1960s.
CTC, which has offices in the building, is waiting for Cotswold District Council to make a decision on the application.
A CTC spokesman said: "This will comply with the Disability Discrimination Act and make the second and first floors accessible to all."
