FIVE consultants working in Worcestershire’s two under-pressure A&E departments have resigned, it has been announced.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, the organisation running the two departments at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital as well as Kidderminster Hospital, announced the resignations with a statement on its website this evening.

It read: “The trust can confirm that it has received resignations from five emergency department consultants - four from the Alexandra and one from the Worcestershire Royal.

“It is believed all five consultants have received alternative offers of employment.

“We will be discussing the departure details with each consultant over the coming days including the notice period to be served.

“We would wish to stress that services will continue to be provided as normal and an urgent transition plan will be put in place in conjunction with stakeholders to ensure that patients can continue to receive safe and high quality urgent care going forward.”

It is not known why they resigned or how many consultants in total work at the two departments.
