THOUSANDS of years of history converged at Worcester’s Commandery this weekend.

Visitors to the attraction in Sidbury mixed with figures from across time, from Vikings and Ancient Greeks all the way to the two World Wars and beyond.

Scores of re-enactors in spectacular authentic and reconstructed costumes were in place throughout the 12th century building and its garden putting on a range of displays and demonstrations as part of the week-long Love Worcester festival.

The building was packed with visitors young and old throughout the weekend enjoying events including fashion shows from across history, 17th century musket and pike demonstrations, Napoleonic drills, Victorian magic lantern shows and a range of different dance displays.

Jane Wilson from Hallow visited on Sunday with her son Jack

“It’s really impressive,” she said.

“The effort that’s been put into this is fantastic.

“It’s great that we have something like this in Worcester.”

Six-year-old Jack said he had enjoyed trying on a Roman soldier’s helmet the best.

“I like all the different costumes the people are wearing,” he said.

Marketing and events manager at Museums Worcestershire Helen Large said: “We are absolutely delighted to be hosting the Living History weekend at the Commandery.

“It is the perfect setting for 2,000 years of history to come to life.

“We would like to thank all those involved, in particular The Worcester Re-enactors.”

The Love Worcester festival – a celebration of history, culture and architecture – runs until Sunday, February 22 and includes a range of events at museums and attractions throughout the city.
