VISITORS to Croome Court will have the chance to take a 19th Century-style selfie or have a professional photo taken at the historic home, as part of a new project.

Midlands-based artist Lucy Hutchinson has created an exhibition inspired by the staged photography style of the Victorian middle class – the Carte-de-Visite.

The exhibition, funded by the Arts Council England and supported by the National Trust, is called 'I sell the shadow to save the substance.'

There will be three staged scenes set up in the saloon of Croome Court, near Pershore, that visitors can explore.

Ms Hutchinson said: "I feel that Croome will provide a fantastic backdrop to enhance my work.

“The contrast between the architecture and the sets representing modern ‘taste’ are particularly interesting for me.

"A lot of the work explores the ideas of authenticity and status and the sets could help viewers to reinterpret and question these ideas."

Costumes and props will be on hand for visitors to choose from to help them construct a character they would like to portray in their photo.

The park and lakeside are open from 10am until 5.30pm every day and Croome Court is open every day from 11am to 4.30pm (except Tuesdays when it’s closed).
