A FORMER Malvern schoolgirl hopes her classical music concert in the heart of the town will hit the right note and raise funds to help the rehabilitation of sick and injured police officers.

Zara Edwards, aged 21, who is a retired police officer's daughter, has organised the concert at Malvern Priory on Saturday, May 16 at 7pm in aid of the Flint House Rehabilitation Centre, Goring-on-Thames.

If the concert is a sell-out and filled to capacity (600 seats) it could potentially raise £7,200 for Flint House which aims to provide the highest standards of individually planned, intensive rehabilitation services for sick and injured, serving and retired police officers. In 2014 over 3,800 serving and retired police officers were treated at Flint House.

Music student Miss Edwards, whose family still live in Newtown Road, Malvern, said: "I am looking forward to performing and to hearing others perform. I'm really excited about seeing what kind of turnout we have. This particular charity is really good and helps police officers who have been injured while on duty."

Ms Edwards, the daughter of retired police inspector and police cartoonist "Jedd" (John Edwards) and a Bangladeshi mother (Rumana Edwards), will be a soloist together with other soloists, instrumentalists and the West Mercia Police band on the night. Lord Geoffrey Dear will be giving the opening address.

Miss Edwards is a soprano and at present is studying a music degree at university after finishing her formal education at the Malvern St James Girls' School, where she was head of the school choir and performed at numerous venues in the UK and on choir tours abroad. She was also a chorister in the Worcester Cathedral choir and the National Youth Choir.

Independently, she has been invited on a number of occasions to perform at police functions, the National Memorial Arboretum, and various charity concerts, weddings and funerals.

Admission is by ticket only and costs £12 and can be obtained from R Edwards or by emailing jeddartist@gmail.com.
