TWO people have been injured after a three-vehicle crash on the M5 this evening (Tuesday, February 17).

Emergency services responded to the accident on the M5 northbound, which saw the carriageway closed for more than three hours.

The incident, between Junctions 6 (Worcester) and 5 (Droitwich), occurred just before 5pm.

Lane three of the motorway was reopened around 8.30pm.

A police spokeswoman said traffic was "flowing reasonably well" after the lane reopening and the two injured people were believed to be elderly.

Eyewitnesses reported gridlock on the motorway, with one Twitter user @andyhx describing it as looking like a "serious accident".

Five police cars, two fire engines and three ambulances were on the scene, as well as a Collision Investigation Unit.

The other two lanes are due to open when debris has been fully cleared.
