ONE of West Midlands Ambulance Service's vehicles was involved in the crash on the M5 last night, between Junctions 5 and 6.

A Patient Transport Vehicle was part of the three-vehicle accident which occurred just before 5pm yesterday.

Two people on board the patient transport minibus were seriously injured when it collided with two cars on the M5 motorway in Worcestershire.

In total, six people were injured in the incident, which saw the northbound carriageway closed for most of the evening.

Five ambulances, three rapid response vehicles and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find one of its Patient Transport Service vehicles and two cars that had been in a serious collision.

“The two patients who were traveling in the PTS minibus at the time of the crash suffered serious injuries, and the man driving the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

"All three received emergency treatment at the scene and were transferred to Worcester Royal Hospital for further treatment.

“Three further people who were travelling in the cars were also treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics and were transferred to The Alexandra Hospital for further treatment.

“The Trust will co-operate fully with the police investigation into the circumstances of the crash to find out exactly what happened.”
