THERE has been a great response to a plea for unwanted single beds to be given to vulnerable adults and children.

Second Chance Furnishings staff said it was extremely grateful to the response made by your Worcester News' readers to their urgent appeal.

The social enterprise is struggling to fulfil a backlog of orders following an increase in referrals in December and January.

Paul Clarke, operations co-ordinator at the social enterprise, thanked everyone who had donated beds and shared the appeal online.

Second Chance has been able to fulfil 15 outstanding referrals from December after it found itself struggling to cope with the number of orders it was receiving.

The social enterprise has a contract with Worcester City Council to provide furnishings and white goods for people living in crisis including those who were previously homeless or escaping domestic violence.

Mr Clarke said: "We have managed to complete 15 outstanding referrals from December.

"At present we have another 11 to completed and more are being referred to us every week.

"We are very grateful for the public help but we need to keep going."

Beds need to be in good condition with fire regulations labels attached.
