MORE details have emerged about a faulty lift which trapped two people on consecutive days in Worcester.

Your Worcester News reported last week that firefighters rescued an elderly female stuck in the lift on Saturday (February 14) morning, just a day after another woman was similarly stranded.

It can now be revealed that the incidents happened at John Gwynn House – a block of flats for people aged 60 or above - in Newport Street.

At 2.53pm on Friday a female became stuck in the lift. A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Worcester attended the scene and released the woman.

The lift was turned off and deemed unfit for use by firefighters until an engineer had attended.

Repairs works were carried on Friday following the incident.

However at 11.24am on Saturday the lift malfunctioned again and an elderly female was trapped between the second and third floors of the building.

Fire crews attended the site for a second time in two days and rescued the woman.

A spokeswoman for Sanctuary Group, which operates John Gwynn House, said: “We want to thank the local fire service for their swift and professional response.

“The residents involved are both safe and well and we are arranging for repairs to take place as quickly as possible.”

Three lifts are available at the John Gwynn House complex and the broken one has now been mended.
