A TEENAGER has been sentenced after attacking a teacher at a Malvern high school with a knife.

The 13 year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced after he wounded the teacher with a knife. A second person was also injured in the incident.

The boy was handed an intensive referral order for 12 months when he appeared at Worcester Youth Court on Wednesday, February 11.

Referral orders are used to agree a plan for the child to ‘payback’ to the victim or community and tackle offending behaviour.

He had previously pleaded guilty to the charges of maliciously wounding, assault causing ABH, threatening a person with a knife in a public place and possession of knives in a public place.

The two victims were awarded £75 in compensation each.

The incident occurred at the school at about 9am on Monday, September 8 and the boy was eventually found by the police after an eight-hour search.

At one point 40 police officers were involved in the search, while some remained on the scene at the school.

The boy was eventually found on a train heading toward Hereford at around 4.55pm.

The school carried out a review shortly after the incident and said it was satisfied with its security procedures, but would look at what it can do to improve the flow of information to parents, especially on social media.
