WORK to resurface the M5 between junctions 6 and 9 begins tomorrow (Friday) and will last for six weeks.

The surface of the southbound carriageway will be replaced with low-noise material, which also reduces spray in wet conditions, between Worcester North at junction 6, and Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire at junction 9.

During the work, the southbound carriageway will be closed in sections, including southbound entry slip roads.

Phase one of the work will be between junction 6 Worcester North and junction 7 at Whittington, from Friday until Saturday, February 28.

Traffic will be diverted at junction 6 along the A4440, the A44 and re-join the M5 at junction 7.

Phase two of the work will be between junction 7 and junction 8 at Strensham, from Saturday, February 28 to Tuesday, March 24.

Phase three of the work will be between junction 8 and junction 9 at Tewkesbury, from Tuesday, March 24 to Thursday, April 2.

Diversions will be in place and all work will be carried out overnight.

Highways Agency project manager Purnima Kaul said: “The work will lead to an improved, smoother and quieter surface for road users, and reduced traffic noise for those nearby.

“To carry it out safely and efficiently we need to close the M5 southbound overnight. Road users should therefore allow extra time for their journeys.”
