A WORCESTER couple celebrating 60 years of marriage say they are as in love today as they were when they married.

Connie and George Rowberry, who live in the Ronkswood area of Worcester, celebrated their diamond anniversary yesterday (Thursday).

Connie, aged 82, said she first met 83-year-old George when she was 23 and working in Kays, where George would deliver parcels to.

"His friends used to wind him up and tell him to ask me out, and one day he did. I would say it was love at first sight really," she said.

"We married about three years later. We had no money for a wedding so we really had to save up hard. We got married in the Holy Trinity Church, which was in the Shrub Hill area, and it was a beautiful, snowy day. It was freezing cold but we didn't care about that, we had a lovely day."

The couple went on to have three children, Carole, Wendy and Mandy, and now have several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

"To celebrate our anniversary we had a get together on Sunday and we went out for a meal. It was lovely, we had so many cards and presents, and all the family round, and our family are our pride and joy," Connie said.

Although it hasn't always been easy, Connie said she believes people "just don't try" at marriage anymore.

"We've had our ups and downs, and we've had our rows, but we have always said sorry to each other and moved on," she said.

"People just give up too easily these days and don't work at a marriage. We've always talked things through and worked any problems out, and that has worked for us. We always do things together and support each other. But most of all we love each other, and we were very much in love when we first met and we still are today."
