A NEW birth centre in Worcester has welcomed a new arrival in the shape of a generous £2,000 donation.
The Meadow Birth Centre at Worcestershire Royal Hospital was given the grant by Birmingham-based The Michael Marsh Charitable Trust, which will be used to buy equipment and resources for the new centre, which is due to open at the end of March.
The four-bed centre will be run by experienced midwives and cater for women who have had no complications or medical problems during their pregnancy.
Matron for maternity Rachel Carter she and her team were “delighted” by the donation.
“This money will enable us to better prepare the birthing environment to ensure that pregnant women are able to give birth to their babies in the environment that best suits their needs without appearing clinical,” she said.
“We intend to purchase items that will put women at ease, making their birth a memorable experience for the right reasons, for example lighting, music and soft furnishings as well as medical equipment that is suited to a home from home environment as well as being functional should the need arise.”
Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/meadowbirthcentre or via text by sending MBCW97 plus £5, £10 or £25 to 70070.
