A troubled Worcester pub has closed once again after its most recent landlord handed the keys in.

Woobar, in St Nicholas Street, closed in January after Matt Harris called time on his on his tenure of the boozer.

Mr Harris, who took on the pub in October last year, says it became clear it "wasn't a viable project".

He said: "I left the pub as it just wasn't a viable project at all.

"It was a bit of everything that contributed to my decision really.

"I tried to turn it around, but not enough people came and it's a really hard pub to establish in the city."

When Mr Harris took over the watering hole, he said the challenge was to change its reputation which has left it stigmatised from its days as The Metro.

He said it was easier said than done to that, which was one of the reasons he left.

Mr Harris said: "The reputation it has was hard to turn round, and this also meant it wasn't viable.

"I've got another job so it's up to someone else to try and keep it going. I've not really got any advice for them though.

"The reputation of the place needs to change but that's easier said than done."

He took the pub on only a matter of weeks after previous landlady, Zoe Hannay, terminated her lease as she also struggled with the pub's reputation.

A spokeswoman for Punch Taverns, which owns the pub and leases it out, said: "We can confirm that the Woobar is currently closed and our local teams are working hard to recruit a new tenant for the pub. "We hope to have the pub open and trading again in the near future".
