THE local legend of the black pear will be told at a special event in the Hive library in Worcester.
The event, which will transport people back to Tudor times, will teach about Queen Elizabeth I's visit to the city 440 years ago and its legendary link with the black pear on Worcestershire's coat of arms.
The Tudor day in the Children's Library on Saturday, March 7, will be held between 10am and 3pm, and Paul Harding from Discover History will be setting the scene.
Children can also try their hand at decorating a letter in the style of the period and there will be a Tudor Trail around the library for them to follow
Paul Hudson, learning and outreach manager for Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service, said: "Queen Elizabeth I's visit was a major event and our archives detail how in preparation for her arrival Worcester's residents were told to clear away dung hills and rubbish from the streets."
