A DEDICATED charity worker who supports people suffering with the same condition as her is in the running to be named Britain's Best Volunteer.

Donna Saunders, of Colin Road, Northwick, Worcester, has been announced as a finalist for her voluntary work with National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS).

And she needs people's help to pick up the title as well as a £1,250 charity donation and a holiday voucher worth £1,000.

Mrs Saunders began volunteering with NRAS eight years ago while living with the condition herself.

She runs the local support group as well as fundraising events such as tea parties and the RAmble in the summer which saw 100 people take part in a sponsored walk for the charity.

At her 40th birthday party this year she requested donations to the charity instead of gifts.

The mother-of-two said: "Being nominated was a real surprise but a nice surprise obviously.

"I'm not really worried about the prizes or anything like that it was just very nice to have the recognition.

"Really, that's the main thing.

"It's nice to be recognised for what I have done but I feel there is far more worthy people out there so I am just going to enjoy it.

"It's lovely."

Hundreds of nominations from across Britain were received for the award, a partnership between Markel UK, the specialist charity insurer, and Small Charities Coalition.

Runners up will receive £250 for a charity of their choice and a personal prize of an iPad mini.
