A SPRING fair run by a Worcester branch of the Mothers’ Union raised £251.58 for a range of worthy causes.
A range of handmade presents, cakes and flower bouquets – just in time for Mother’s Day – were on offer at the event at St George’s CE Church Hall in St George’s Square, Barbourne, on Saturday, March 14.
Jill Humphries, from the church’s branch of the Mothers’ Union said she was delighted by how successful the event had been.
“We were very, very pleased,” she said.
“It’s only a little event but we raised £241.58.”
Mrs Humphries said the money would go towards a range of causes supported by the Mothers’ Union, including relief efforts in Vanuatu in the south Pacific, which was hit by a hurricane last week.
“I don’t think people really understand what we do,” she said.
“The Mothers’ Union sounds very old fashioned and people think it’s just old grannies on walking frames knitting. But that’s a wrong impression.
“It’s a worldwide charity and it does an amazing amount of work all over the world.
“Because we have branches all over the world we can send it straight to them.
“We’ve already sent some to Vanuatu.”
Most churches in Worcester have an associated branch of the Mothers’ Union. To find out more go along to a Sunday service.
