STUDENTS pulled together to create a mosaic sculpture to mark the end of work on the high rise flats in St John's.

Under the guidance of mosaic artist Victoria Harrison, the pupils of Dines Green Community Primary School created a Tudor Rose emblem- the emblem of the school- which is now on show in St Clements Close.

Headteacher of the primary school Sara Longmire said: "We were proud to be a part of Victoria Harrison's mosaic Tudor Rose masterpiece.

"Children across the age ranges benefitted from the inspirational mosaic artist when they worked alongside her to create our school logo."

The stained glass and steel emblem came about after residents of the flats expressed wishes to St John's county councillor Richard Udall to mark the end of £5million renovation of the flats with a sculpture.

Cllr Udall paid for the work out of his Worcestershire County Councillor Divisional Funds, and commissioned Ms Harrison to bring the work to fruition.

He said: "It has been a difficult time for the residents of the flats, they have had to put up with a lot of problems and disturbance, but the work has now been completed and the new sculpture will help to celebrate the completion of the works, many of the residents used to live in Dines Green and some have grandchildren who attend Dines Green School, it seemed appropriate to combine the two communities to help celebrate the end of the work

“Everybody agrees that the area now looks terrific, significant improvements have been made and the flats are now very much improved. The Tudor Rose helps to complete the transformation”.

The pair are now working together to create a memorial to the soldiers of the Worcestershire Yeomanry- Queens Own Hussars- which will be installed in Cripplegate Park later this year, to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the allied landings at Gallipoli.

Ms Harrison also worked with St Clement’s Primary School and Our Lady Queen of Peace, along with residents of the flats, to create a mosaic representing the city of Worcester, which is on show at Henwick House.
