A TRIO of Worcestershire MPs got a sneak peek inside the new £600,000 midwife-led birth centre at Worcestershire Royal Hospital last week.

Worcester MP Robin Walker visited the Meadow Birth Centre, which will welcome its first mums-to-be on Monday, March 30, along with his counterparts in Mid Worcestershire Sir Peter Luff and the Wyre Forest Mark Garnier on Friday, March 20.

The three were shown the four en-suite rooms and met staff at the unit.

Mr Walker said he was “blown away” by the centre.

“This centre is going to offer more choice to county women over where to give birth and will be huge benefit not just to women now, but for a long time to come,” he said.

Mr Luff, who visited the unit in his final official engagement before he steps down at May’s General Election described the facilities as “superb”.

“Women of the county are very lucky to be able to have such a choice of birth environment,” he said.

Mr Garnier agreed, calling the centre “very impressive”.

“I wish there had been something similar available when my own children had been born,” he said.

The four-room birth centre is near to the current delivery suite, but not a part of it and is designed not to feel like a hospital.

A drop-in open day will be held from 10am until 8pm on Thursday, March 26 where visitors can tour the centre, view the facilities and meet members of the team.

Your Worcester News will also be visiting the centre later this week and will feature a look inside ahead of its official opening next week.
