A GUIDE and guide leader will quite literally have the world at their feet after being selected for a top international honour.

Areley Kings Guides in Stourport-on-Severn have double cause for celebration - two members of the group have been selected to represent Worcestershire Girl Guides overseas.

Guide Elysha Bourne has been selected to go to the Haarlem Jamboree International Camp in Holland this summer. Elysha, a guide for four years, said: "I am very excited about the trip and looking forward to meeting lots of new people at the Jamboree. It will be only my second time abroad and will be a fantastic experience."

The Haarlem Jamboree takes place every four years and is one of the highpoints in the European scouting and guiding calendar.

The event attracts as many as 2,500 participants from all over the world.

Leader Helen Winter has also been selected to go to the Girlguiding World Centre Our Cabana in Mexico for Thinking Day in February next year. Helen, who has been with the group for 21 years, is delighted to have been given the honour.

She said: "I was stunned when I heard the news that I had been selected and am really looking forward to it now as this is will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity".

Areley Kings Guides and both Elysha and Helen will work hard to secure the funding for these trips. A series of events are planned including bag packing, a sponsored bike ride and an evening of Mexican/Dutch food and entertainment.
