FIRE has damaged a building at the historic Canon Frome Court, near Ledbury.

Firefighters were called to the Georgian manor, the former home of the Hopton family, just after 9pm on Wednesday.

Crews from Ledbury, Hereford and Bromyard used water from the lake to help tackle the blaze in a two-storey building, which was put out just before 10pm.

A spokesman from the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said the investigation into what caused the fire was continuing. The manor, set within 40 acres of land, is home to a farming community of about 45 people.

It is owned and managed by the Windflower Housing Association. The house and stable block are divided into 18 self-contained homes of varying sizes, which are sold to members on 999-year leases.

In the main house, there is a communal dining area, sitting and meeting rooms, guest rooms, kitchens and a gym. Members of the community declined to comment.
