BRAVE children are being recruited to help rid Worcester of its gruesome ghosts.

The Ghost Walk of Worcester has launched a new children's walk that starts this month.

Adventurous youngsters aged between six and 12 will accompany a ghost-busting hero and join him on his patrol of the city centre.

The ghost hunter, well-equipped with his ghost-detection and ghost-eliminating equipment, will guide the children around the city, stopping at haunted locations to re-live particularly gruesome stories of Worcester's past.

Knowing that ghosts are afraid of the light, the ghost hunter will give each child a glowstick which they can wear for protection and make sure no ghosts follow them home.

Organisers Worcester Live, who also run the Swan Theatre, Huntingdon Hall and Live at the Commandery, are billing the walk as an exciting, action-packed adventure for children as well as a fun way for children to learn about the fascinating history, both ghostly and factual, of the city.

The walk, which lasts just over an hour, takes place every Friday night until April.

To book a place, at £5 per person, call 01905 611427. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Finley Ablewhite, aged seven, said: "I went on the ghost walk with my dad and my friends Olivia and Charlie Garfield.

"It was dark and scary but we had glowsticks and our ghostbusting leader Skel' to protect us from the spooks.

"As we walked around, the ghosties kept pulling jokes and tricks on us and Skel told us exciting spooky stories.

"We even saw a ghostly handprint on a wall. I have my favourite story but I'm keeping it a secret so I don't spoil the ghost walk for anyone else.

"It was a really fun night with lots of suprises."

Alex Stallard, 11, said: "It is a very good idea to open it up to children and you get a fair amount of exercise during it.

"I do not recommend horror fans to go on it because it isn't scary enough. I don't think children over 10 will enjoy it but for little children it's better because they can believe it.

"The guide is childish so it's good. The age should be changed from six to 12 to five or six to 10. I also found out some things about Worcester I never knew... but I'm not revealing anything!"
