Susan Hampshire is to lead a hugely talented cast as the new wickedly sharp, sophisticated black comedy, The Bargain, takes to the Malvern Theatres stage from 26th March.

He was known as Cap'n Bob' and the bouncing Czech'. She was known as The Angel of Mercy' and Saint of the Gutter'. Theirs would not appear to be a likely union but in April 1988, three years before his body was found floating in the Atlantic, Robert Maxwell sealed a deal with Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The Bargain is based on an astonishing 36 hour encounter that took place in London. The outsized Robert Maxwell was a newspaper tycoon, football fan and big spender. Diminutive Mother Teresa was a living saint, comforter of the poor, missionary and nun. Remarkably, they found they had much in common.

Susan Hampshire is one of Britain's best-loved actresses, recently successful for her role in the popular BBC1 TV series The Monarch of the Glen. Her stage career has included Shakespeare, musicals, classic dramas and light comedies .

She is joined by Michael Pennington, whose recent West End credits have included An Ideal Husband, Gross Indecency, Taking Sides and The Entertainer and Anna Calder-Marshall , whose numerous television and film roles range from Wuthering Heights and Anna Karenina to Zulu Dawn and Dr Who.

The Bargain is at Malvern Theatres from Monday 26th - Saturday 31st March (eves at 8pm, Wed & Sat mats at 2.30pm).
