FAMILES watched on as youngsters rolled boiled eggs down a hill, donned bonnets and played with giant puppets at the Easter event at Fort Royal Park in Worcester.

The sun shone over the group as they enjoyed the warm temperatures playing with toys and taking part in the bonnet competition at the free event today (Monday) - which was also entered by special guests Daisy the dog.

The annual event is arranged by the Friends of Fort Royal Park and Worcester City Council and take places in partnership with the Commandery, where youngsters spent the day making bonnets, some of which took part in the competition.

The defending champions of the bonnet competition were at the event and were in for more success this year.

Nick Bryan, of Battenhall, and children Harriet, seven, and Thom, four, had made their bonnets already in preparation for the event.

Harriet said: "I have enjoyed today. The egg rolling is my favourite part so far."

Mr Bryan added: "We come every year, for the past three years. It's been really good. The weather has been brilliant this year. It's great fun."

Sunita Hopkins and her daughters, Hollyanna, seven, and Georgina, five, were also ready for the bonnet parade having decorated their entries on Saturday.

"Hollyanna added the flowers today from the garden," she added. "They enjoy making their bonnets and taking part. It's a great event and the weather's been beautiful. It's nice to ave the free toys to enjoy."

In the end the overall bonnet parade winner was Stefani Webb, eight, with Hollyanna and Thom also winning their categories.

Amy Steele, of Bath Road, was also there with her family and two children, Owen and Emily.

She said: "They have done the egg rolling and the Easter egg hunt. We decided to come along because it's a free event and we saw it advertised and it's not far for us to come."

Lynn Denham, chairman of the Friends of Fort Royal Park, said she thought the day was a great success.

"We have got an Easter hunt trail, the egg rolling, large toys to play with, a space hopper slalom and the bonnet parade," she said.

"The Pauline Quirk Academy have also brought some giant puppets with them and their stand.

"It's just fabulous to see so many people enjoying the park in the sunshine."
