SPARKS are bound to fly when three runners from an electricity company line up to take part in this year's Acorns Triple Run.

Under starter's orders for the tenth anniversary of the run will be Ian Alcock, Helen Alcock and Ann Odell from Western Distribution Power.

The company, which delivers electricity to the Midlands, South West and Wales, has entered a team and is sponsoring the event taking place at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern on Sunday, June 21.

Over 1,000 runners will be pulling on their running shoes for the triple run which raises money for the Bath Road hospice's work providing care for life-threatened and life-limited children and their families.

Pete Broughton, Worcester city team manager for Western Power Distribution, said: “Our sponsorship will help towards covering costs, so that all money raised can go towards the vital work the charity does.

"The staff are really looking forward to the event with some good healthy competition.

"We’re confident that this year’s Triple Run will be bigger and better than ever before.”

Runners of all ages and abilities can take part in one of three courses - a 1km fun run, a 5km woodland trail and the Malvern half marathon.

Over the past decade more than 10,000 people have been involved raising over £350,000.

Shujea Khatun, major events officer at Acorns, said: “We’re delighted Western Power Distribution is not only sponsoring the Triple Run but has also entered a team and I wish them well with the training.

“Events like Triple Run are essential for Acorns as we rely on voluntary fundraising, including sponsorship from participants, for the majority of our income.

"This year is extra special as the event shares its tenth birthday with our Three Counties hospice.”

Since opening its doors on March 14, 2005, Acorns for the Three Counties, based in Bath Road, Worcester, has provided care for 465 life-limited and life-threatened children and their families, including 49 in Herefordshire and 131 from Gloucestershire.
