THE date of Worcester Carnival has been changed after meetings between organisers and public services.

The wheels are still rolling to bring back the popular event but it will now take place on Monday, August 31 over fears an earlier date would disrupt bus services and transport through the city.

It had previously been scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 4 after a 14 year absence from the city.

Malvin Hobbs wrote an online letter to let people know of the changes following two senior advisory group meetings.

He said organisers "had to meet with a compromise to Carnival 2015."

The online letter said: "After our second meeting it was decided that moving Carnival to the 31st August 2015 would benefit Worcester City.

"It would stop us causing major disruption to the bus services and other transportation in the city centre.

"I know we always look for someone to point the finger at for why it has to be moved, but this decision was made by the heads of Emergency Services and Council, as well as myself the Carnival Chairman.

"It has taken a while for us to get all the answers we needed, but we can now start planning fully for Carnival and we can start moving forward.

"I would like to thank you all for your understanding that we have to work alongside the Council and the Emergency Services which is why this decision has been made."

The carnival will feature a king and queen as well as floats from Worcester-based businesses, clubs and organisations.
