PUPILS at a Worcester school will get the chance to grill election candidates next week.

A number of candidates running for the Worcester seat will attend an assembly at Christopher Whitehead Language College in Bromwich Road on Wednesday, April 29 where they will meet year 10 pupils.

Assistant headteacher at the school David Farmer said he hoped the assembly would help 14 and 15-year-olds get a grasp of the issues at the heart of the election most affecting younger people.

“We are going to ask them to talk about the voting age and why people should vote,” he said. “And we’ll have a question and answer session.

“The year 10 pupils will be old enough to vote in the next election so it’s about getting them engaged.”

He added after the assembly the pupils would be given the task of talking about the candidates to the other year groups, before a school-wide election is held.

Candidates due to attend include Conservative Robin Walker, Labour candidate Joy Squires and Louis Stephen, representing the Green Party. A representative from UKIP is also due to attend.
