COMMUNITY group members took advantage of the sun this weekend to clean up a playing field around the Diglis area of Worcester.
Members of the Friends of Diglis Fields held a community litter pick on Saturday, April 25 along with the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, a charity dedicated to conserving and maintaining the county’s environment.
Chairman of the Friends of Diglis Fields Francis Lankester said: “Diglis Field looks great and this is a tribute to the city park wardens and all the local people and friends, especially the Duckworth Trust, who help to keep it that way.
“We will hope to welcome as many people on our next litter pick in the Autumn.”
Also taking part in the litter pick were members for Cathedral ward on Worcester City Council Cllr Jabba Riaz and Cllr Lynn Denham.
Cllr Riaz said: “The park is looking exceptionally good and clean but litter from fly tippers and people leaving dog mess behind continues to pose a problem.
“The friends group has been instrumental in keeping up the high standards the park users enjoy and we are extremely grateful to all the volunteers that help by giving up their valuable time.
“I hope that this good will continue with the impending improvements proposed by the city council put into action.
“It's a beautiful asset already and one that will be even better when the works have been completed.”
The Friends of Diglis Fields was formed in September 2012 to help protect and improve Diglis Recreation Ground and the Cherry Orchard Local Nature Reserve.
Neither Cllr Riaz nor Cllr Denham’s seats are included in the 11 being contested in next month’s City Council election.
