TO commemorate Victory in Europe Day members of the Worcester branch of The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association will hold a special wreath laying ceremony.
The event will take place at the new regimental memorial stone in Gheluvelt Park in Barbourne Road, Worcester, on Friday, May 8, at 11am.
Its purpose is to remember the soldiers of the Worcestershire Regiment who served during the Second World War at home and in Europe, Palestine, Eritrea, North Africa with the 8th Army and during the siege at Tobruk.
The Friends of the Worcestershire Regiment Museum have researched some of these brave soldiers.
Lt. P W Kerans, 1st Bn Worcestershire Regiment, for example, was killed in action at the battle of Keren in Eritrea, which was part of the Italian Empire, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1941.
