A FORMER chairman of Worcester’s Liberal Democrats has revealed his support for Tory Robin Walker in the city’s general election contest.

Your Worcester News can today reveal how Alex Kear, a former city councillor, has decided to go public on backing the Conservative.

Mr Kear, who lives in Dines Green, quit the Lib Dems five years ago to join the Greens, saying he was infuriated with Nick Clegg’s decision to go into Coalition.

But he has since dumped his Green membership, and has now sent your Worcester News a letter proclaiming the virtues of Mr Walker.

“He is someone who deeply cares about his city he represents, and always puts people ahead of power,” he said.

“Someone who attends community events, makes time for those in need yet manages to balance the Westminster workload with dealing with issues facing his city.

“A person that holds liberal and social values but whose thinking is a conservative approach.

“Worcester is known as the faithful city, to that end we deserve a faithful MP, that person is Robin Walker.”

In his letter he takes another swipe at Mr Clegg, saying he has shown “no liberalism whatsoever”, and claiming a Labour or Lib Dem-influenced government after May would be “a risk”.

Mr Kear used to represent Claines on the city council.

Despite his backing the Worcester seat, where Mr Walker is defending a 2,982 majority, remains on a knife-edge.
