EASTNOR Castle will be offering visitors a chance to ride back in time as it serves up some nostalgia over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

The glorious days of steam will be on show in the courtyard in front of the castle with an interesting line-up of working steam engines to conjure up memories of yesteryear.

In addition the castle will show its 100 year-old Ransomes, Sims and Jeffries agricultural engine in addition to its 40 year-old Foden tractor.

There will also be a vintage carousel and chair swing, a Punch and Judy show, tea tent, garden games and live music for all the family to enjoy.

James Hervey-Bathurst, owner of Eastnor Castle, said: “Our Ransomes is a very popular and solid half of the family tug of war, but it will also be running a threshing machine as it was designed to do in 1915.

“It is one of the few traction engines that has not been repainted since its preservation and so it has a very authentic look. Other vintage vehicles, including a Stanley steam car, will be on display, and our showman’s living van will also be open to visitors. We look forward to a fun event.”

The usual castle attractions will also be open, including the new Land Rover Little Off Roaders and Rota Swing, the Knight’s Maze, the Burma Bridge Tree Top Walkway and Adventure Playground, gift shop and ice cream parlour.

Further details are available on the Eastnor Castle website: www.eastnorcastle.com or by calling 01531 633160.

On Sunday May 31 the castle will host a special Land Rover event. Eastnor Castle has been used by the Midlands 4x4 vehicle manufacturer for off road testing and development since 1961 and has a special relationship with the company.

Since 1989 Eastnor has also been used as an off-road learning centre for the emergency services, explorers, humanitarian societies such as the British Red Cross and, more recently, the general public.

On Sunday May 31 the castle will stage a Land Rover Heritage Day when vehicle owners can go along and park their own Land Rover in the designated car park to create a unique collection of the off-roaders. Owners qualify for half price admission to the castle and grounds.

Non Land Rover owners can go along too of course and enjoy the displays from clubs, special vehicles, take part in the Land Rover Experience of driving at Eastnor with world-class instructors who can share tips and techniques about how to tackle almost any terrain with confidence, as well as see displays from the Land Rover Heritage Exhibition.
