SHOPS and businesses in Pershore decked out their windows in sporting-themed finery in preparation for this year's spring carnival.

The shop window competition - centred around the theme of sports past and present - was judged on Friday, May 15 by Mayor Tony Rowley, town crier Robert Speight and Morna Ludlow, who arranged the contest.

Thai Legend restaurant in High Street was named the winner for its festive tableau while The Smart Exchange dress agency, also in High Street, won second place for its patriotic display featuring union flags.

TC Fireplaces in Bakers Arcade was awarded third place for its effort, while Fladbury Flowers in High Street was named runner-up.

Winners were awarded a trophy and a certificate applauding their efforts.

This year's Pershore Carnival will kick off with a procession in High Street at midday on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.
