A FAMILY fun day at a Worcester city centre social club is on course to raise £1,000 for St Richard's Hospice.

Cloudy skies on Sunday were no deterrent to the crowds who came to the Barbourne Ex-Servicemen’s Club at the Moors for the all-day event.

There was plenty to keep kids entertained, with all kinds of stalls and games, rides, inflatable slides and more sat out in the grounds of the club, while inside, club members and supporters had their own stalls to raise funds.

Club chairman Terry Robshaw said: "I don't think the weather has done us any harm. If it has been very sunny, people might have gone off to the seaside or somewhere, but they stayed in Worcester and came here.

"Last year, we raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK, and this year, I hope we can do the same for the hospice."

As part of the fundraising drive, the club held a charity gig on Friday night, which raised just short of £450. Performing were Angie Field, Just Keith, Steve Knight and Chantelle Bayliss.

Mike Hemming, who organised the event, said: "We got Chantelle at the last minute, because another performer dropped out. Chantelle's grandmother is a member of the club and we managed to contact her."

Miss Bayliss, aged 20, who was brought up in Worcester but now lives in London, said: "It was lucky I was around this weekend, and I really enjoyed the gig. I do modern chart songs and I was bit worried the older members might not know them, but it went down really well."
