A LECTURER from the University of Worcester was invited to The Queen’s Buckingham Palace garden party in recognition of his work with the British Association of Social Workers (BASW).
Dr Peter Unwin was appointed as a non-executive director on the council of the Association two years ago after a nationwide ballot.
His platform was one of fighting the bureaucracy that has overwhelmed current day social work and pushing for social workers to be freed up to spend time face to face with children and families.
“BASW face an uphill battle in the light of social work's media image and the increasing workloads that will come social workers' way as a result of the impending public sector cuts,” he said.
Dr Unwin has been particularly involved in recent months with governance issues and hopes to play a key role in helping the Association grow and develop.
