NEARLY 2,000 children will come together at the University of Worcester Arena as part of an initiative to get more youngsters interested in classical music.
The Big Sing will see a full day of workshops taking place at the university, in partnership with the Worcestershire Youth Music and Worcestershire Music Hub, and will be led by acclaimed choral director Ula Weber with her band.
It is part of the BBC 10 Pieces project, a new scheme for schools focusing on classical music and creativity.
There are more than 30 schools involved with almost 2,000 children, aged between six and 11, taking part in the event on Tuesday, June 16.
Trevor Jones, strategic music education manager at Worcestershire Youth Music, said: "This event provides a rare opportunity for hundreds of children to sing together in a very large choir.
"It will be an inspiring day of music–making for the children of the county."
Anne Hannaford, director of information and learning services at the university, said: "This is going to be a wonderful occasion with hundreds of children involved in playing and learning more about classical music.
"It will be a real spectacle.
"We are delighted to be hosting it at the university.
"Our students have been working with the schools in preparation for the event, helping the children to learn the songs they will be working on."
