A NEW garage, food store and cafe in Worcester is due to open this Wednesday with almost every job taken by people from the city.

The BP garage in Lower Wick, Worcester has been demolished and the new £1 million BP M&S Simply Food which will be opened by the Mayor of Worcester at 4pm.

The garage will continue to provide fuel but the site will also have a Wild Bean Cafe selling tea, coffee, hot drinks and sandwiches while an M&S store will sell ready meals, fresh produce, sandwiches, drinks and basic groceries including bread and milk.

A total of 20 people will be employed at the Worcester store and all but one of the staff live in Worcester, some from the St John's and Lower Wick area.

Store manager Tony Berry said: "I can confirm that everything is now in place and my team and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers to the new store."

The store will be open 24 hours every day, 365 days of the year. The Wild Bean Cafe will give a service of 'Food to Go' to night commuters including emergency services personnel.

Food will will include coffee, hot paninis and hot baguettes.

Mr Berry said: "All of our services will be available for customers to shop at their leisure as the store doors will be open through the night so customers will not need to queue outside and be served through a typical night pay hatch.

"On the day of opening we will be giving away M&S Bags For Life along with money off vouchers, free item with certain spend levels and at various times throughout the coming days product sampling.

A sister store in Worcester Road, Droitwich will be opening on Wednesday, June 24.

The two stores have created more than 50 new jobs in the area and a few positions are still available.

Around 150 people applied for the 50 jobs across both sites.

The Droitwich store which will also include a car wash will be bigger than the Worcester store, employing 30 people. All but two of the staff at the Droitwich development live in the town.
