IT will be an extra special Acorns Triple Run for one father who has taken part in every single event since it began ten years ago.

Maurice Taylor has a poignant reason to take part in Sunday's run and is urging people to enter before the deadline on Wednesday at 5pm.

The tenth anniversary of the run will be held almost four years to the day Mr Taylor and wife Diana's son, Adam, passed away at the age of 26.

Adam was born with congenital muscular dystrophy and doctors originally told the couple he would not live to five years old.

One of the first children through the doors of Acorns Children's Hospice, Bath Road, Worcester, when it opened a decade ago, Adam was cared for at the hospice until he turned 18.

Mr Taylor aged 60 and from Broadway, said: “It’s an extra special one for me, not only being the tenth one, but also being so close to when Adam passed away.

"Adam had congenital muscular dystrophy, a disease which affects the joints, muscles and development.

"It meant his muscles were very weak and he was physically disabled.

"Adam was such a positive person and really made the best of the situation.

"Acorns gave him great independence and allowed him to get on with life.

"He never let his condition get him down."

"After my third run, Adam teased me and asked "how many of these runs are you going to do dad?"

"Well I suppose I’ll keep going.

"It’s a great cause and my way of saying thank you for the work Acorns does."

Mrs Taylor has kept in touch with the charity after Adam passed away and speaks fondly of his time at the hospice.

"As a family, Acorns gave us the professional support we hadn’t had before.

"They knew exactly what we were going through.

"Adam’s passing has left a big hole.

"You have to get on with life as best you can but sometimes it’s hard to talk to people you know and you don’t want to burden or upset them. Acorns is there to lend a listening ear.

"If I want to shed a tear, I can do.”
