AN elderly woman has been struck by a car outside Santander in Worcester Road, Malvern.

The 83-year-old women, who was conscious throughout, has now been taken by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester with a suspected fracture to her shoulder.

West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust confirmed they received 14 calls about the incident at 11.54am this morning.

The woman complained of pain in her left shoulder and hip following the impact which is believed to have been at low speed.

The road was closed between Link Top and Belle Vue Terrace but has since reopened.

A rapid response vehicle was on scene within four minutes and was backed up by an ambulance and a paramedic area support officer. 

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham was also en-route but was stood down.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The initial calls suggested that the incident was more serious than it thankfully turned out to be.

“On arrival, there were over 100 people in the vicinity.  The collision involved an 83 year old lady and a car which resulted in slight damage to the bonnet.

“The woman was conscious but had suffered a probable fracture to her left shoulder as well as left hip pain.

“She was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board and given pain relief before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

“The man driving the car was unhurt but was understandably shaken by what had happened.”

A spokesman for the ambulance service said it was a positive sign that the air ambulance from Strensham was stood down.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called at 12pm to a collision between a car (Peugeot 206) and a pedestrian on Worcester Road, Malvern.

 

"The female pedestrian has been taken to hospital by ambulance, she is conscious but the injuries are unclear at present."
