A GOTHIC love story is reawakened when the 2013 performance of Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty will be screened at Pershore's Number 8.

Matthew Bourne’s inventive reimagining of Perrault’s timeless fairy tale was recorded at Birmingham Hippodrome and will be screened in Pershore on Saturday, July 11.

Beginning in 1890 at Princess Aurora’s christening, the ballet moves from the Fin-de-Siecle period of fairies and decadent opulence through the Edwardian era - a mythical golden age of long Summer afternoons, croquet on the lawn and new dance crazes.

Then, years later, when Aurora awakes from her century long slumber, she finds herself in the modern day, a world more mysterious and wonderful than any fairy story.

Following the success of Nutcracker and Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty was the fastest selling ballet in the company’s history and smashed box office records across the country.

It was created for New Adventures 25th birthday celebrations and completed Matthew Bourne’s trio of re-imagined Tchaikovsky ballet masterworks that started in 1992 with Nutcracker! and, most famously, in 1995, with the international hit Swan Lake.

The screening begins at 7.30pm with tickets, costing £15, available by calling 01386 555488.
