WATER company bosses need the help of the eagle-eyed folk of Worcester - to look for leaks.

Severn Trent Water says leakage in the region has been driven down by 10 per cent over the last five years to it’s lowest ever level.

However, bosses at the company say they are keen to reduce leaks even more which is considered especially important during hot weather when demand for water is high.

Malcolm Whittaker, who has been finding and fixing leaks across Worcestershire for over 29 years, said: “We take leakage very seriously and we want to bring leakage levels down as much as possible so that water isn’t wasted.

"This is especially important at this time of year when it’s hot and dry as demand for water increases hugely, and we can’t afford to waste any.

"When it rains, spotting water coming out of the ground is pretty much impossible, and that means that we have to rely on our technology to find leaks and bursts.

"The kit that we use is great at finding leaks, but we can only search a small amount of the 46,000km network of water pipes that we have at any time."

Those who spot a leak can call the Leakline number on 0800 783 4444. The call is free on most landlines.
