A COUPLE from Evesham have paid tribute to the power of social media after it helped bring their beloved pet parrot home safe and sound.

When Matthew and Rasa Royle’s Senegal parrot Agnes disappeared from their home in the Bengeworth area of Evesham on Monday, June 29 and didn’t come back they feared the worst.

Mr Royle said he didn’t know why the bird had flown off but thought something might have scared her.

“We were mortified, obviously,” he said.

“We shared it through Facebook and it got so many likes.

“In total it had about 170.”

He said he and his wife were particularly worried as Agnus is just three years old, with Senegal parrots often living for more than 30 years.

“On Wednesday we started to fear the worst,” he said.

“But we got a message on Thursday to say she had been spotted in the Fladbury area.

“We went on Friday and spoke to lots of neighbours and left our phone number and her bird cage with a friend. But we didn’t find her.

“But later on a mate of mine called to say the bird had flown down and landed right on a woman’s shoulder.

“When we spoke to her she told she ran inside and said ‘Has anyone lost a parrot?’.”

Mr Royle said he was delighted his post on Facebook had been so effective.

“It just shows the power of social media,” he said. “People really rallied around.

“She was a bit tired when we got her home.

“But she’s had a sleep and she’s fine now.”
