A SEX offender who twice failed to notify police he had moved house only feels safe when he is anonymous, a court has heard.

In October 2003, Kenneth Haycock, aged 34, was jailed for three months for an indecent assault. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

Yesterday, Haycock, of Sandys Road, Ombersley, near Worcester, appeared at the city's magistrates court after he failed to tell police he had moved from an address in Tolladine, Worcester, to his current home.

Marie Watton, prosecuting, said a similar incident had taken place in January.

"He confirmed he had moved, but thought he had between seven and 14 days to notify them," she said.

Andy Childs, defending, told the court that Haycock was not a dangerous man.

He also said a national newspaper had recently and incorrectly called him a paedophile.

"As a consequence of the exposure his car has been vandalised more than once and he's had several windows smashed," he said.

"This is not a dangerous man, but admittedly he should be playing by the rules."

Magistrates sentenced Haycock to three months in jail, suspended for 12 months.

He was warned that it is now "imperative" he is supervised by the Probation Service and he understands why the sex offenders' register is in place.
