COUNTY musicians are being invited to take advanctage of a new recording studio in Worcester.

Built at the back of Grahame McGrath's St John's bungalow, Babydrag-on Studio is Worcester's newest Mecca for talented local musicians.

Room enough for five musicians, the private two-room studio has a selection of high quality microphones, pre-amps and outboard gear and can record up to 24 tracks at once. There is also a digital audio workstation that can handle 256 tracks.

Grahame, aged 61, moved to Penhill Crescent, St John's, Worcester, from Birmingham two years ago and put a lot of time and effort into building the new studio. "It took a long time to get it together," said the music lover. "Building parts of the studio as and when I got the chance.

"I finally got it up and running last summer, but then at the end of November there was a problem with the computers."

The so-called live-room, where the musicians play, is acoustically treated and soundproofed and the entire studio is air conditioned for added comfort.

A stalwart musician himself, Grahame is a guitarist and songwriter. "I'm getting on a bit now, but I played in bands during the mid-60s. Then a few years ago, when the BBC first did Music Live (a rock and pop festival organised and promoted by the corporation) I helped organise a session in Birmingham. But what I'd really like to do is get another band together."

Grahame does not want the studio to be fully commercial but he won't turn people away. "I'll record a range of music, from classical to rock. It's for local bands really."

The studio has the necessary software tools to do Audio Restoration - cleaning up noisy recordings, for example, on audio cassettes.
