Legless Worcester Soldier helped by Queen Amelie - Queen Amelie of Portugal has provided a pair of artificial legs for Private Edward Whitehouse of the Third Worcesters, who recently had both legs amputated in St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, owing to the injuries inflicted by shrapnel. Whitehouse is a Dudley man. Her Majesty's attention having been called to his case, she offered to provide the artificial legs at a cost of 100 guineas. Whitehouse has undergone no fewer than 15 operations and his courage has won the admiration of hospital staff. He is making good progress towards recovery.

Worcesters are full of admiration for the Ferozepore 14th Sikh Infantry who helped attack Turkish positions in Gallipoli on June 4 and 5. "In the highest sense of the word, extreme gallantry has been shown by this fine battalion. The history of the Sikhs affords many instances of their value as soldiers, but it may safely be asserted that nothing finer than the grim valour and steady discipline displayed by them on June 4 has ever been done by soldiers of the Khalsa".
