A TRIO of Worcestershire charities benefitted to the tune of hundreds of pounds raised at a performance put on by three county musical troupes last month.

Vale Harmony Barbershop Chorus of Fladbury along with Evesham-based Vale Connection Ladies a cappella Chorus and The Redditch Orchestra put on an evening of music celebrating the USA last month.

The event at Evesham Arts Centre on Saturday, July 18 raised more than £1,200, to be split between St Richard’s Hospice, Worcester-based Leukaemia Care and the Evesham Abbey Bell Tower Appeal.

Vale Harmony chairman Ian Fothergill said: "We were delighted to combine with Vale Connection and put on a charity show with such a variety of songs.

“It was a great experience to work alongside an orchestra for the first time and our thanks go to the musicians of The Redditch Orchestra."

Vale Connection chairman Rosemarie Davies said: "It was such an enjoyable evening and we're really pleased to have made so much money to help local charities".

The concert, which was compered by BBC Midlands Today presenter Michael Collie, followed a previous performance on Saturday, July 4 – the day America celebrates its independence – at the Artrix Theatre in Bromsgrove.

Chief executive of St Richard's Hospice Mark Jackson said: "This is a fantastic effort, really brilliant. Thank you very much."
