A PAPER boy ended up with a broken hand after being in collision with a car - the driver of which drove off without stopping.

Daniel Oldfield, aged 14, was delivering the Wor-cester News in Sherrards Green Road, Malvern, on Monday afternoon when the accident happened.

His mum Karen Buxton, of Elgar Avenue, Malvern, said her son was riding along outside the community centre when a car came up behind him and caught his back wheel.

"He fell off and hit his head which knocked him out," she said.

"By the time I arrived he was in a mess.

"There was a bump on his forehead the size of a tennis ball and he was wandering around in a daze.

"He didn't even know who I was."

Mrs Buxton took Daniel, who is a pupil at The Chase High School, Malvern, to Worcestershire Royal Hos-pital where it was also discovered he had broken a bone in his hand which has now got to remain in plaster for four weeks.

"He was shaken by what happened and said he wanted to pack up his round, but he is picking up a bit now and has decided to carry on," she said.

"He's been doing it for a year and the money gives him some independence."

Mrs Buxton said two of Daniel's friends who were with him at the time of the accident remembered that the car involved in the accident was silver.

Police spokesman Rich-ard Bull said they were informed of the incident at 3.49pm on Monday. He said the car is described as a silver medium-sized four-door saloon - possibly a Mazda.

He said: "It could be that the person driving the car was unaware of what happened. If there is a collision people should stop and see what is involved. We want to talk to the driver of that car and we would be grateful to anyone who can help us with that."
