A WORCESTER man punched and kicked another man so hard that his victim's shoulder was dislocated.

Andrew Higgins admitted launching a drunken attack on Dean Lindsay outside McDonald's restaurant in Worcester city centre.

Police had to use CS spray to bring Higgins under control as he flailed around and shouted "I may not have started it, but I made sure I finished it!"

The court was told that Higgins, aged 19, of Wyld's Lane, had drunk eight pints and two double vodkas before launching the attack on the other man, who had not been drinking, as he waited outside for his brother.

Julie Rosamond, prosecuting, said Higgins punched the victim five times and kicked him in the left shoulder, dislocating it, before police rushed to the scene.

She said: "The blow caused him immense pain and he tried to walk away. The defendant was shouting abuse. Police arrived at the scene and tried to make an arrest. Higgins then swore and lashed out at officers with his arms.

The victim suffered a dislocated and fractured shoulder as a result of the attack.

The defendant said he had tried to trip him and that he over-reacted, punching him five times."

Appearing before Worcester magistrates on Wednesday, Higgins admitted assaulting Mr Lindsay causing him actual bodily harm and resisting a police officer.

Brian O'Connell, defending, said the attack was not unprovoked but was made in retaliation.

Higgins was cautioned on November 16 last year for assault and for theft on December 2 last year.

The case was adjourned until Wednesday, June 20, for a pre-sentence report and Higgins was released on unconditional bail.
