POLICE and members of the public helped clear up hundreds of cans of cider after a lorry overturned on a busy roundabout.

The 38-tonne lorry was "fully loaded with Bulmers cider" when it overturned at the A44/A4103 roundabout at Rushwick at around 5.50pm on Wednesday.

The driver was unhurt but due to the spillage, the roundabout at the top of Bromyard Road eventually had to be closed for the clear up to take place.

Six police cars and a towing vehicle were at the scene and drivers were asked to avoid the route if possible before the roundabout was completely closed at 7.15pm.

Hundreds of cans of Strongbow littered the road while the lorry was on its side, but when emergency services lifted the vehicle back up on to its wheels, more cans poured out across the road.

South Worcestershire Police posted a picture of the clear up operation on Twitter, writing: "Worcester cops and public assisting with the clean up" while Malvern Cops jokingly Tweeted: "Cider Spillage — as feared the lorry has shed its cargo while being righted. Mopping up has begun, no volunteers required at this time."

The roundabout reopened at around 9pm and police were at the scene clearing up until around midnight.
