ROADWORKS are causing long tailbacks in the centre of Worcester this afternoon, with some drivers reporting delays of more than 45 minutes.

The problems appear to be centered around Castle Street, Foregate Street and Droitwich Road and mostly caused by temporary traffic lights.

Traffic is moving, but is very slow in some areas. Drivers are advised to find an alternative route.

Speaking this afternoon a spokesperson from Worcestershire County Council said: "The old traffic lights on the junction of Foregate Street and Castle Street are being upgraded.

"In order to minimise the disruption caused by the work, which started today, it  is taking place outside of peak hours from 9.30am until 3.30pm.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the upgrade which is scheduled to take four weeks."
